I was browsing Cadillac’s the other day with my godfather in person. After waiting forever to be approached by a salesperson (which is horrible service I might add for a luxury car dealership), we test drove and sat in a CTS V-Sport. It had incredible performance. I would say comparable to the first gen CTS-V. Probably better than. Interior quality was excellent (except for some misaligned stitching where the panels merge below the CUE interface & perforated leather in that area is also asymmetrical on either side which shows me that GM still has some catching up to do with the foreign rivals.) Its a good car but I wouldnt call it great though.
Its eye watering 77k window sticker made my godfather ask the salesman: “Why would I get this over the CT6 or even a last gen CTS-V”? He was right. You can get a 2 year old CTS-V with 20k on the odo for 51 grand. And its the better car IMO. Which current cars have used or older versions that are better?

the current XB is all around worse, aside from the dashboard actually, when compared to the first generation

I haven’t driven the new one, but let’s be honest here.

There’s a difference between one car being better value and being better than its successor. A used CTS-V may be better value for some people than a new V sport, but a) that doesn’t make it a better car, and b) even if it is the better car, you have to compare an old CTS-V to a new CTS-V for a fair comparison, that is if you’re talking in terms of “has progress been made?”

If your definition of ‘better’ is of spirited driving enjoyment. Then here’s a starter list:
BMW M3, M5 and M6. Hell, just pick an M car.
Skyline R34's are still a favorite over the GTR in America.
The Mitsubishi Evo IX is preferred by many over the X
Does the Mazda RX-7 and RX-8 count?

Couldn't agree more. The original xB was fun and eager while still being practical. The new one has just lost the fun of the original.

The Boxter and Cayman. Sorry Porsche but 4 cylinder only in the 718 is a step out. The S version should have a six. Also, I prefer the front of the Boxter than the front of the 718

I wasn’t talking value wise, I was talking about the car in general. You don’t really have to compare trim to trim because like I said, the CTS V-Sport is on par performance wise with the first gen CTS-V. So it isn’t that far behind in performance than the last gent CTS-V.

I prefer the 458 over the 488, with that perfect, NA, screaming V8 and much cleaner design (what the hell happened with the side vent on the 488?)

Seriously. The stigma surrounding old Hondas aside, this is what they do best. Simple, clean designs, fun engines and gearboxes, and nothing else.

ofc you have to compare trim to trim dude.
other wise, i could say a fully loaded 5 year old truck compared to a brand new V6 stripper model.
dont work like that

The only true answer. I don’t even mind the new Corolla, it’s a perfectly acceptable commuter car, but nothing can live up to the AE86.

The previous CTS-V was the 2nd gen CTS-V. Current model is the third.

Excellent examples. The R34/R35 is a good one because of the simple fact of all the tech and complexity it has over the R34. The Rx-7 & RX-8 is an ok example because the RX-8 was an improvement, but the Wankel still wasn’t all that great.

“better” is a construct unique to different demographics.
Hard to answer unless you’re assuming the demo is a fixed type of buyer.

That’s true. & I get what your saying, but at the same time, like for instance with your example, that old truck could be better than the new one because of less complexity and being more of a truck than the new one. New trucks are more luxury sedans than anything.

Oh yea of course. Its shame though that you can’t find an AE86 that hasn’t been untouched by people thinking they are tuners.

then i can compare a stripper model from 5 years ago to a 80K fully loaded model now.
either way your argument falls short.

Impala, Malibu, Explorer (not that the new one is bad, but it’s not a body-on-frame, midsize, semi-maneuverable and offroad-friendly vehicle anymore), BMW (all), Scion xB, Jeep Renegade (as a trim level, versus the car), Dodge Dart (arguably), Honda Odyssey... That's all I can think of of the top of my head (thanks, NyQuil).

But the Corolla isn’t a new Trueno this is. I’m guessing I’d still rather own the AE86.

You can blame people wanting bigger numbers with their cars and emissions regulations restricting how those those numbers are gotten. I would be happy with a front mounted, small displacement V12 that revs to high heavens in a lightweight car, with three pedals over some torquey, twin turbo v8, with neutered sound and a dual clutch. Giving a feast for the senses at quick speeds is a lot more enjoyable than having to triple the speed limit to make a car not boring.

You could make this argument till the end of time. Its certainly not fair to compare a current gen Vsport to the previous generation V...because wagon.

I know that I’m a bit biased, but the C6 z06 is much better than the C7 z06. The new may have a “nicer” interior and more gizmos, but it doesnt make up for its real flaws.

Has anyone pointed to Volvo’s anything vs. 200/700/900 versions?

Totally agree about the Odyssey. We have a 2009 and it’s honestly better than the new one. The new Odyssey is trying to hard to be some sort of luxury SUV, as opposed to ours, which is “just” an honest family hauler.
Older BMWs are better than the new ones too.

Well, I’m sure that if you guys had sat down to negotiate, thousands would have fallen off that $77k MSRP in the opening minutes of discussion. Last I heard, GM was having a tough time moving the CTS, which is a bummer, because it’s a great car.

WRX. They completely got rid of the hatch for one, and two they completely got rid of all the character the WRX had with the exhaust and its overall dontgiveafuckness. Watching Matt Farah do a one take of that one guys tuned WRX recently he said it best. They made it into a more refined EVO.

We tried. The fact that its not selling does nothing for negotiations. The dealer wouldn’t budge anything more than $500 bucks. Its almost as if the dealers have an air of arrogance about the fact they aren’t selling for some reason.

If you’re willing to travel - here’s one for $58k in Georgia . Looks like a more basic model and is $3k off MSRP.

That’s not bad at all. It’s probably been on the lot for awhile that’s why it’s discounted.
